Black Pellets introduces a new class of sustainable solid biomass-based fuel to generate heat and power. Markets for black pellets are residential users, commercial users or industrial users:

Residential and Commercial Heating

Black Pellets is a carbon neutral fuel which is designed to heat houses, offices, hotels, public buildings and swimming pools. Because of its higher calorific value and bulk density, black pellets are cheaper and more sustainable than traditional wood pellets. It can be used by district heating companies or directly in households or office buildings.

Industrial Heating

Black Pellets can be used in various industrial settings. In agriculture, it can heat greenhouses or breeding farms where it saves tremendously the heating costs compared to oil, natural gas, and kerosene, plus the fact that it improves the ecological footprint by causing less GHG gases. In steel industry and cement industry using black pellets as an alternative to bituminous coal will reduce emissions and avoids new investments in furnaces.

Power Generation

Black pellets can be co-fired in coal-fired power plants. Using black pellets in co-firing reduces CO2, NOx and SOx emissions, as well as carbon payments due under emissions trading schemes or similar low-carbon policies. Black pellets can be co-fired with coal in percentages of 50% with little or no modification of the burners needed but it can also completely replace coal.

Cogeneration / CHP

Black pellets are a cost-effective solution to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions in steam turbine cogeneration plants where it can replace coal without modification of the burners. In cogeneration plants, biocoal can be used for co-firing with coal or run only on black pellets.
